Tanzanite was first discovered in commercial quantities in the 1960s in Northern Tanzania in East Africa. This is the only location that it has been found which makes it a very rare and unique gem. The beautiful blue-violet of this gemstone is a result of the Tanzanite heating up to nearly 400 degrees Celsius, either within the Earth naturally or as a heat-treatment that simulates the same process. Either way, when Tanzanite is heated, it stabilizes the stone, enhances the color, and is a permanent reaction.Tanzanite Properties
